An exhibition featuring computer generated photorealistic cityscape images that use the conventions of 19th-century American landscape painting to depict the material changes in urban
skyline since 2008.
I use the conventions of 19thcentury American landscape painting to present contemporary American cities. My art is created using 3D visual effects tools and computer game authoring software to construct still images and animations. I research cities that are my subject matter through visits, personal interviews and reading. Fundamentally, my art contrasts the differences between popular narratives and the real world facts they are used to explain. I am also interested in how popular narratives are the product of particular social positions and are sometimes accepted as neutral or even natural. Often times the prominence and visibility of popular narratives render other viewpoints, intentionally or not, less visible. My art is an opportunity for me to explore my own interests and also show the visual details of things that are missed and obscured.
