JoAnn Staashelm is a local photographer who fondly remembers her first photos taken with her family’s Brownie camera. Since those photos, her passion has only grown as she eventually combined her passions of travel and photography. She’s met and photographed people around the world while vistiting Tanzania, Bhutan, New Zealand and Greece.
During her recent journey to Myanmar, Ms. Staashelm trekked to remote hill villages to meet and photograph locals, temples and the beautiful landscape of Myanmar. “I treasure my trips to other countries and the opportunity to meet and immerse myself in other countries. In Myanmar, I was amazed at the happiness and strength coming from these warm and culturally rich people. Even though they only have the basic things in life, they carry with them a depth of happiness. After meeting with the people, I return home to my overly busy and chaotic western life with a renewed sense of balance and focus on what’s important in life.”
As a way to give back to the people of Myanmar, a portion of sales from this show will be donated to Myanmar Heart, a non-profit that helps provide clean water, environmental issues and sustainability for the people of Myanmar: www.myanmarheart.com
