A Cyanotype Workshop on Saturday, October 9  from 12-4 pm in New Albany

The Cyanotype process was traditionally used for blueprints and some early photography. Artist, Kevin Rose Schultz, takes a more contemporary spin showcasing the details of vintage dresses and textiles from the early twentieth century in prints that are full scale and illuminated with light. Her inspiration comes from the intricate details of the handmade lace and elegance of the silhouette. She further explores the cyanotype process of inexpressive portraits and fantasy images. The feminine spirit is a thread that is consistent throughout all of her work.

Kevin Rose Schultz explores the cyanotype dress print and is inspired by the details and silhouettes of women’s fashions of the 20thcentury. She sees vintage textiles as a reflection of feminine identity and culture and seeks to preserve it using an alternative photographic process that is over 175 years old. All of her work is inspired by her maternal grandmother who was a maker and a crafter. Schultz is not only focused on printing textiles with this process but also enjoys printing expressive portraits and fantasy images. Her vintage dresses are also featured in her encaustic photography “Garden Series”, which she layers female figures with florals and landscapes.
