“In my work, I explore the way time and place alter personal identity. My practice establishes human connection through themes of loneliness, memory, and the everyday. I curate selections from my archive of collected photographs, writings, and items such as banana stickers and mailed envelopes, creating evidence of time spent in my own ordinary life. This compilation serves as a tangible record, meticulously capturing the passage of time.

“By using photography, often film photography, I document the fluctuation of personal changes and relationships—with others, myself, and my surroundings. Through the sharing of these intimate records, my work interrogates the boundaries between the private and the public.

“While I primarily focus on my individual feelings and experiences, I delve into shared emotional experience, making my work relatable to others and blurring the distinction between memory and reality for the viewer. Reconstructing my identity in objects and images allows me to linger in the certainty of the past, giving me the space to process the inevitable passing of time.” — Kacey Slone

“I create traditional photographic works and digital media collages. My collage process blends digital images, film, textures, paper, found objects, and painted elements using Photoshop. These works draw from my daily photography and film archive, allowing me to explore personal and social themes such as fear, dreams, identity, nature, chaos, serenity, and isolation. By layering both similar and contrasting elements, I construct new visual narratives that reflect or question the world we live in.

“Recently, my focus has shifted to documentary photography. Capturing light and shadow in everyday environments invites stillness and encourages a deeper connection to the natural world. For this upcoming exhibition, I turn my lens toward America’s landscapes. I seek to preserve their fleeting beauty and document what may soon be lost. Whether it’s collages or traditional digital photography, I share visual stories and invite viewers to pause, reflect, and connect.

“Vanishing Solitude is a body of work deeply rooted in my love for the land. The photographs document two weeks in South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Nebraska. I felt an emotional connection to the land’s beauty and greatness while photographing vast scenes, hiking the rocky trails, and observing the local wildlife. In my short time photographing each place, my desire to capture my connection to the land became emotional and urgent. These places will not look the same in future decades, a year from now, or even tomorrow.

“These beloved landscapes are ever changing. Erosion carves away the soil. The climate is unpredictable. While climate erosion and arguments over the land continue, we are losing this sacred land’s history, identity, beauty, and wildlife’s refuge.

“Through this body of work, I hope to remind people of what we still have, what we stand to lose, and why it is worth protecting. This place of return and belonging is open for all to walk, to breathe in, and to witness. It is a shared space, not just for people but for the wildlife that calls it home. If we take too much, we may find that there is nothing left but a vanishing solitude.” — Melissa Push
