“My story begins with the first taste of independence, leaving home to discover the world through a camera lens. Each new experience is documented in a frame. As I spent more time away from my family, my friends, and the landmarks of my childhood, photography gave me a medium to express mixed feelings of wanderlust and home-sickeness. The camera became an extension of myself, capturing each foreign place and feeling. My story is catalogued in images, each photo a piece of the life I was still learning to live on my own. This collection follows young freedomas it transforms into a life wizened by experience and growing nostalgia. Walking through the gallery, you’ll leave home and come back changed. ” — Urban Wyatt
Unrest, the first solo exhibition by Louisville native, New York-based photographer Urban Wyatt is a coming-of-age story of wanderlust and homesickness. Best known as the photographer behind Jack Harlow’s album covers, including the viral cover for Jackman, Wyatt places a spotlight on counter culture as the camera becomes an extension of the artist himself, mediating between the confidence and uneasiness of newfound independence from one’s hometown.
