Mauro Antonio Barreto is a Nashville, TN based photographer. He has presented his work in solo exhibitions at Künstlerhaus Dortmund (DE), The Java Project (Brooklyn, NY), Random Simple (Nashville, TN), and Spellerberg Projects (Lockhart, TX). In 2024 He participated in the Biennial for Visual and Sonic Media düsseldorf photo+, Düsseldorf (DE). His work is in the permanent collection of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (New Orleans, LA) and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (Richmond, VA). He is a member of the artist collective Tiger Strikes Asteroid and directs Neue Welt, an artist-run project space.

New Models is a series of portraits of young people in fast-growing Southern cities like Nashville and Austin. The images depict intimate encounters between pairs, charged with yearning, desire, and melancholia, and shaped by melodrama and anachronism. The process begins on Instagram, where Barreto finds models and asks them to invite a friend, creating a dynamic of collaboration and intuition. Together, they navigate poses and gestures, arriving at compositions that feel both staged and spontaneous.

    AWE & WONDER

Featuring Dobree Adams and Jonathan Greene

    Dates: September 12- October 15, 2025
Events: Poetry Reading w/Jonathan Greene and Gray Zeitz October 18, 3pm

Dobree Adams, fiber artist and photographer, captures intimate landscapes and experiments with photomosaics, stitching together two or more images. Her circular images were inspired long ago by seeing Emmet Gowin’s photographs in the round of the Italian landscape, and by the round images of Chinese photographer Dalang Shao. Her solo and group photography shows have been featured during the Louisville Photo Biennial since 2013. An exhibiting member of the reincarnated Lexington Camera Club, she lives on a Kentucky River farm north of Frankfort with poet Jonathan Greene.

Jonathan Greene is the author of 40 book publications including many volumes of poetry, a memoir titled Anecdotage, and a commonplace book Gists, Orts, and Shards. He also co-edited a short poem anthology titled Succinct and is an award-winning book designer and publisher of Gnomon Press. Going Through It was published by Broadstone Books for his 80th birthday in 2023.

AWE & WONDER is a selection of images from a collection, full-frame and circular, about the land and landscape. This collection is part of developing my philosophy of being with dying, the inevitable, and based on embracing and celebrating what Joseph Campbell called the rapture of being alive, an awareness, curiosity, and appreciation for being intimately connected to the mysteries and colors of the natural world.
