LSMF to Celebrate the 1890 Champion Louisville Colonels in New Exhibit
Exhibit to tie into 2015 Louisville Photo Biennial
Louisville, KY – July 6, 2015 – Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is set to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the 1890 American Association Champion Louisville Colonels with a special exhibit that will run October 3 through November 1.
The special exhibit, which will be displayed in the lobby area of the museum, will include more than a dozen rare photographs of Louisville Colonels players, as well as team photographs. A photograph of the 1890 team that won Louisville’s only major league baseball title will be included.
Inside the museum, guests can view a bat and ball used by Hall of Famer Honus Wagner, as well as scorebooks from the Colonels teams of the 19th century. These pieces have never been on display in Louisville before. Wagner became the first known professional athlete to endorse an athletic product with he signed a contract giving J.F. Hillerich & Son (later Hillerich & Bradsby, Co.), the permission to use his autograph on Louisville Slugger bats on September 1, 1905.
The exhibit comes as part of the Louisville Photo Biennial that takes place September 25 through November 7, 2015, throughout Louisville Metro, Southern Indiana, and surrounding communities. Along with 60 photography exhibitions, the Louisville Photo Biennial also presents accompanying workshops, public lectures and panel discussions. For more information, visit their website.
Admission to the museum also includes interactive exhibits, a short feature film, historic memorabilia, the World’s Biggest Baseball Bat and an award-winning factory tour. As an added bonus, all guests receive a free souvenir mini-bat at the end of their factory tour.
